Who doesn’t want a whiter, brighter smile? Teeth whitening has made its way into everyday life as you walk through the supermarket, the shopping mall, and even at home as you watch commercials on television. Technology for teeth whitening has progressed over time and teeth can often be whitened by several new techniques of “bleaching” available today.
The at “home” techniques involve making custom-fit trays which fit into the mouth and these are then filled with bleaching materials. When worn for a few hours a day, noticeable results are seen generally within a few days to a couple weeks. Another common method used is the “in-office” method where a strong bleaching is placed over the isolated teeth and a special light is used to assist the bleaching material in lightening your teeth.
The in-office method uses more concentrated materials and tends to have more sensitivity side effects. At Meridian Dental Care, we like the at home bleach tray method more, as you can control things better and it tends to give a deeper, longer lasting lightening of your teeth. It is like microwaved food versus a home cooked meal.
Results vary from individual to individual and we will be happy to help you decide which method works best for you. Some of the factors involved include the intensity of the stains, whether or not you have fillings or crowns on your front teeth as well as what may have caused the stains.
